How to play Cm7 on piano, step by step

  1. Start on middle C. That is the lowest note of the chord.
  2. Thumb (1): C
  3. Index finger (2): E♭
  4. Middle finger (3): G
  5. Little finger (5): B♭
  6. Press them together with the right hand. The left hand plays the same notes with fingers 5, 3, 2, 1 an octave lower, or just C on its own as a bass note.

The black keys are under fingers 2 and 5, with white keys under 1 and 3. The hand ends up at a middle depth, which takes a moment to settle into.

The second note is E flat, the black key to the left of E. E natural would give C7.
The little finger is weak on the black key
It has to reach further into the keyboard than the thumb. Let the hand angle rather than stretching the finger back.
The chord sounds muddy
Four notes with two black keys can blur in the lower octaves. Play above middle C or use an inversion.
