What the name means
A melodician is a person who makes melodies. Magic gives you a magician, so melody should give you a melodician. The word did not exist, which is exactly why we could build a whole site behind it.
It is also the point of the site. Nobody looks up a chord for its own sake. They look it up because they are two weeks into learning an instrument and this shape is the one standing between them and a song they want to play. The aim here is to be the page that gets them past it, then be there again tomorrow for the next one.
What we do
One page per chord. Every page has the standard shape, the easier version when the standard one needs a barre, the other ways to play it up the neck, a left-handed view, printable diagrams, and audio for every single voicing.
The audio is the part most chord sites skip. A diagram tells you where to put your fingers but never tells you whether you got it right. Being able to press a shape and hear what it is supposed to sound like is the difference between copying a picture and learning a chord.
Start at the guitar chord library to see what that looks like in practice.
What we hold ourselves to
Everything is free and nothing is gated. No account, no email, no popup before you can see a diagram. You came here to look at a chord.
Every shape is checked before it ships. Diagrams are generated from chord data, and each one is validated against the chord's own formula: a shape that does not spell the chord never gets written. Song attributions are checked against at least two independent chord charts, because "this song uses this chord" is a factual claim and we have caught wrong ones before.
No tabs, no lyrics, no song arrangements. Chord shapes are facts and anyone may use them. A song's tab or lyrics belong to whoever wrote them. We name the chords a song plays and stop there.
We say when a link pays us. Some links to lesson providers are or will become affiliate links, and they are marked where they appear. They never cost you anything extra, and no partner has ever influenced which chords or songs are on this site.
What this site is not
It is a reference, not a course. There is no curriculum, no teacher and no feedback on your playing. If you want someone to watch your hands and correct them, you want lessons, and we are happy to point you at people who do that.
Chord names are also not as settled as they look. Two published charts for the same song regularly disagree, capos move which shape you actually finger, and a recording may be tuned somewhere else entirely. We report the shapes a player holds and note the capo. Where we are not confident, we leave the song out.
Get in touch
A wrong chord, a shape you would finger differently, a song we have attributed to the wrong key: those are the messages we most want. Write to support@melodician.com and include the page you were looking at.
